Einen Standort fanden sie im Dramatischen Theater Karlshorst, das als Theaterhaus von der sowjetischen Milit\u00e4radministration errichtet und als Haus der Offiziere f\u00fcr kulturelle Veranstaltungen genutzt worden war. Nach der Deutschen Einheit wurde die im Volksmund genannte \u00bbRussenoper\u00ab privatisiert. Das Haus war weitestgehend gut ausgestattet, es fehlte nur an der richtigen Lichttechnik. Diese fanden die Initiator*innen des Theaters des Ostens im Palast-Inventar. 1991 konnten Teile der Lichtausstattung des Gro\u00dfen Saals preiswert erworben und im Theater Karlshorst eingebaut werden. Noch heute ist die Lichttechnik oberhalb der B\u00fchne verbaut.
